The Blue John Experience

A truly unique, “hands-on” experience enables you to work with Treak Cliff Cavern family and staff to get really involved with this unique stone.

Learn about the geological formation of caves within the Peak District National Park and  meet the family who own and care for the mine.

Go prospecting for your own piece of Blue John stone underground in the mining areas, here at Treak Cliff Cavern. Our expert craftspeople will guide you through polishing your selection and you’ll also be able to choose additional pieces from the workshop to make into a window hanger and a piece of silver-mounted jewellery.

Places are strictly limited by dates and places available. For more information please see the main Blue John Experience page.

Carols by Candlelight — Treak Cliff at Christmas

Carols By Candlelight Events take place at weekends in December.

Our popular Piano Accordionist will provide unique accompaniment for familiar Christmas carols. The Witch’s Cave is lit with hundreds of real candles, and a Christmas tree and fairy lights create a lovely Festive atmosphere. Singing is for about an hour, with mince pies and mulled wine served afterwards in the Cavern entrance, where you can enjoy the museum and shop.

Please note that Santa will not be here as he has moved into a Grotto in Castleton Visitor Centre!

2023 dates for both Carols by Candlelight have yet to be confirmed
