Coronavirus Statement, 22nd March 2020
Treak Cliff Cavern will be open today, Sunday 22nd March 2020 from 11.00am – 3.00pm. After this time we will be closed to the public until further notice.
We will be continuing with our mining and manufacturing behind closed doors and our online shop is still active so you can still order gifts from the safety and comfort of your own home and have them delivered. Although the gift shop in the main Treak Cliff will be closed, our Silver and Stone shop in Castleton will be open until Saturday 28th March unless we are advised otherwise. From Sunday 29th March it will be closed for refurbishment.
As soon as we reopen we will make an announcement here and on our Facebook page. In the meantime all emails and calls to the shops and stores will be answered.
Please keep safe and we’ll see you once things are back to normal.
News, Activities and Events at Treak Cliff Cavern
We hold annual events and regular activities at the cavern. Any news items – in particular, closures due to bad weather – will also appear here.
Polish Your Own Blue John Stone
PLEASE NOTE: unfortunately this activity will not be available on the dates of the Carols by Candlelight events – please see the dates below.
This is an activity which is available throughout the year – every day between 10am and 4pm – (3pm in the winter months) – when people of all ages can, with the help from our friendly workshop staff, select, prepare and polish a slice of Blue John Stone to take home.
You do not need to pre-book this activity.
These prices start at £2.50 but vary depending on the Blue John stone you choose from our wide selection.

Polish your own Blue John Stone Christmas Tree Decoration
From October 1st 2019 to January 31st 2020, visitors can polish and take home their very own Blue John Christmas tree decoration or window hanger.
Our skilled craftspeople will guide you through the processes of creating your own unique Blue John ornament in our new visitor workshop area.
Prices for this activity start at £10 per hanger / decoration.
A cavern tour combined with this activity (which you can book online) is also available on our Trip Advisor Page or our Expedia page. (Available from 1st October – 31st January with the exception of the Carols by Candlelight dates below.)
The Blue John Experience
A truly unique, “hands-on” experience enables you to work with Treak Cliff Cavern family and staff to get really involved with this unique stone.
Learn about the geological formation of caves within the Peak District National Park and meet the family who own and care for the mine.
Go prospecting for your own piece of Blue John stone in the mines here at Treak Cliff Cavern. Our expert craftspeople will guide you through polishing your selection and you’ll also be able to choose additional pieces from the workshop to make into a window hanger and a piece of silver-mounted jewellery.
Places are strictly limited – for booking information please see the main Blue John Experience page.

Carols by Candlelight and Festive Lunch
Carols by Candlelight is our popular annual Christmas underground singalong.
The sessions tend to start at midday and last for around an hour. Admission includes mulled wine and mince pie afterwards but soft drinks and biscuits also available if preferred.
A guided tour and a present for younger ones from Santa are also included in the ticket price.
Please note that this is a ‘singalong’ event, not a concert.
Tickets will be on sale from September 2020
Light Festive Lunch
A light festive lunch is also available exclusively for Carols by Candleight visitors and can be booked in conjunction with a ticket for the main Carols by Candelight event.
To see what was available last year, click here to view the 2019 Festive Fayre Menu (PDF – opens in new tab).
Join us at Christmas for our festive underground singalong, when the cavern appears even more magical!
This is a popular event so please book early because spaces are limited.
The new Treak Cliff Cavern Interpretation Centre is part-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development - to upgrade the visitor offer, by providing new toilets, heritage and interpretation centre. Project reference number: 101006.
